Today is the day to make iced coffee and drink too much of it!!!!!!

A Wholly Unsatisfying Experience

This weekend I went back to Washington DC for my five year college reunion. I had some reservations about this particular gathering. Is five years enough to warrant a reunion? Is the combination of our relative youth and continuing ambition going to result in a lot of young a-holes trying to impress each other? Am I too pale to be seen in public?

I was going to go, but not with enthusiasm. I did some senseless rebelling and didn't sign up for any of the official activities--I sure showed the organizers who's rock n' roll by having to pay $45 cover charge at the party I did go to (I might have snuck into another. Then again, maybe I didn't.)

Everything I know about reunions I learned from "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion." Now, I know there are alot of differences between the class of 2001 at Georgetown and "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion." It's not high school. It's not California. It's not an '80's reunion. Janeane Garofolo, Mira Sorvino, Lisa Kudrow and Alan Cumming were not there. And it's not a movie.

However, I figured a few key elements would be in place: snide married people, snotty pregnant women, young success stories eager to show themselves off and, in general, a lot of hating.

I was sorely disappointed. I think the worst thing I could say is that a lot of the guys were kind of wearing the same outfit but I guess they can't be blamed for that. Everyone seemed to want to see other people. Nobody seemed to show up solely to show themselves off. There were a lot of doctors and lawyers.

Where was the bitchiness? I came home sadly lacking in good/bad reunion stories. It was genuinely a happy experience, which I hadn't prepared for.

I can only hope that as the Class of 2001 faces the future and we gather again in five years, everyone gets their act together and quits being so pleasant and nice to see. Oh also, everyone needs to start putting on more weight because the backup plan--making fun of how everyone looks--also failed.
