Today is the day to do it when no one is looking.
There are only a few t-shirts left. Do we have one in your size? Find them here!

I've already done my taxes for the year, which basically consists of me throwing a batch of money at the government and saying "Here, please don't hurt me."  Last year I owed an insane amount of money, so this year I made things better by paying estimated tax installments and also doing a better job of keeping track of things I can write off. Writers get to write off a bunch of fun things--magazine subscriptions, Netflix memberships, Amazon orders.  But still, I owed almost $1000 to the State of Illinois this year, which I don't care for, so I'm trying to find ways to justify writing off some of the things I spend most of my money on.

Diet Pepsi (approx 3-4 'cubes' a month)

Why it's necessary:
It pleases my mouth which then pleases my brain which then makes me work better.  Caffeine also helps.  Plus, I'm waiting for my inevitable Diet Pepsi endorsement deal, so when that happens, this will all have paid off.

Expensive Highlights (a few times a year)

Why it's necessary:
Nobody wants to read the writing of a girl with dull, one-tone hair.  Also, when I catch up with my man Brady at Art + Science, he clues me into vital cultural events and sea changes that are essential to someone who writes about pop culture.

Electrolysis (twice a month)
If my eyebrows get so bushy that I can't see, how can I write?

Nutritionist (once a month:)
Why it's necessary:
Everyone knows the pressure that bloggers are under to stay rail thin.

Nail polish (ideally a new color of OPI a month, but more like a few bottles a year)
Why it's necessary:
Do you see these? These are my livelihood. I'm waving my hands at the computer right now, by the way.

Shoes (only a few measly pairs a year)
Why it's necessary:
Oh my god, shoes.
